Greetings to all. This Sunday, please try not to take offense if the speaker tells a joke you do not understand, skips over some details, or if the message is unclear to you.

There is a saying: “If you know, you know.” Sometimes, hearing this can make us feel left out or even offended, especially if we have not had the same experiences. John does not want believers to feel this way. Instead, he wants us to focus on being sure we are in Christ by remembering what we know about Him and by obeying His commandments.

1 John 2:4–5 (MSG)

4 If someone claims, “I know him well!” but doesn’t keep his commandments, he’s obviously a liar. His life doesn’t match his words.

5 But the one who keeps God’s word is the person in whom we see God’s mature love. This is the only way to be sure we’re in God.

Lesson: Remember what you know about God and His commandments. Knowledge of God must come before anything else.
