Confused And Scattered At Babel

Greetings to all, on this "hump" day Wednesday, let us acknowledge and thank God for His mercy in creating the diversity of languages to stop humanity from coming together to accomplish something that went against His love for us. Amen

When we travel to another country or have the opportunity to speak with someone who speaks a different language, you know communicating can be next to impossible. Especially when we do not understand or speak the other person's language.

I lived in Panama for six years, and it was hard for me to communicate. I tried to learn Spanish, and even now, I can only understand or speak "muy poca" to none.

I would often think of the confusion at the tower of Babel and the scattering of the people, which is another one of God's creative and merciful corrective ways of setting humanity straight and protecting us from our selfish desires to be self-sufficient apart from Him.

Genesis 11:6-8 (MSG)

6 GOD took one look and said, "One people, one language; why, this is only a first step. No telling what they'll come up with next—they'll stop at nothing!

7 Come, we'll go down and garble their speech so they won't understand each other."

8 Then GOD scattered them from there all over the world. And they had to quit building the city.

Lesson: Even when we speak the same language, we struggle to communicate at times. Their decision to build the city was not wrong.

Whatever we set out to do, it should not offend or show contempt for God. If so, it will not last, and there will be consequences.
